III. K9 Killer

K9 Killer has a slightly more serious tone than Jock of the Bushveld.
The opening chords are tragic and impact-full with the intention of
drawing attention to the problem of poaching in today's day and age.
We are introduced to an anti-poaching unit and their dog K9 Killer. At
points the Africa motif is referenced briefly and we are led to think
about the life of a training anti-poaching dog. We then find the theme
that clearly depicts the loyalty and companionship that a service dog is
required to have. This pattern of rising notes is quoted in all three
pieces and serves as a reminder to the audience that for these dogs to
have been able to serve their masters, they had a bond of loyalty, trust
and companionship. The so-called "Mankind’s-best-friend" element.
After this we move into music that kicks off with a bang in the
percussion. This is the real scenario of a dog fighting poachers. In a
sense, this dog is in a kind of war zone and will be shot at by poachers
the same as his master. But the piece ends in triumph and the Hero
theme runs through one more time to close the score.

Die doel van die Orkes is om aan kinders die geleentheid te gee om in
'n orkesverband op te tree.
Skoliere tussen die ouderdom 10 en 18 jaar word in die orkes
toegelaat. Met 'n minimum musiekstandaard van graad 1 as die
enigste toelatingvereiste, kan kinders reeds vroeg in hulle musikale

lewe in die Orkes Projek speel. Strykers, Hout- en Koper-
blasers, Slagwerk, asook die Blokfluitfamilie, Harp en Klavier kan

inksryf.
Sodra die inskrywing gefinaliseer is verbind die lid hom/haar aan die
Projek, en word geen toelating- of plasingoudisie afgelê
nie. Seksieleiers word deur die loop van die projek deur die
orkesbestuur gekies.
Gedurende Januarie en Februarie word daar werkswinkels vir die hele
orkes op Saterdagoggende in Brooklyn, Pretoria aangebied. Die
Projek word afgesluit met formele uitvoerings in Maart.
