Jane Austen is the English Novelist and author of notable books published in the early 1800s during the regency period in England. Many of her books became acclaimed films including Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Emma.

Jane Austen came from a gentry family but had highs and lows in economic fortunes. Her childhood was happy but once her father died, had to embrace economic misfortune with her mother and sister. Her brothers ended up moving out and getting lives of their own. Jane and her mother would spend a lot of their lives hopping between the homes of their wealthy relatives, thus experiencing the lives of the aristocracy through the lens of poverty.
