I base this short video on working problems in ADHD on my recent book, 12 Principles for Raising a Child with ADHD. Working memory is simply remembering what to do. It is a special form of active, effortful memory that is one component of the executive functions. It can be usefully divided into verbal and nonverbal (visual-spatial) information that is held in mind to guide behavior over time toward goals. A good metaphor of it is like a GPS we use in our cars to guide us toward our destination. This video discusses some practical strategies for dealing with working memory deficits, in addition of course to the significant improvements that can be gained from taking ADHD medications.

You can find more information on this topic in my books, Taking Charge of ADHD: The Complete Authoritative Guide for Parents, and Taking Charge of Adult ADHD.
