The Cummins is the best Diesel engine option in a heavy duty pick-up truck. I review as a heavy duty diesel mechanic this 2021 RAM 2500 Cummins Diesel and explained why the Cummins is the better diesel engine between the PowerStroke Diesel and the Duramax Diesel.

What is going on guys, this beautiful 2021 RAM 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel is my good friend Ryan truck and I wanted to share my opinions on this awesome engine. first and foremost I don't mean to hate on GM or Ford but their diesel options, the Duramax and the PowerStroke are simply not as well built. they are consumer build engines whereas the Cummins is a commercial use engine built and designed for round the clock off-highway use. this results in a very strong reliable engine.

The Cummins is an Inline 6 engine whereas fords powerstroke and GM duramax are both V8's. now if you know anything about big trucks and towing you'll know that just about every engine on the road today in those semi trucks is an inline 6 and there is good reason for it. Inline 6 engines produce more torque at lower RPM's because of their natural undersquare design resulting in longer crank throw and more torque at slower engine RPM. which is exactly what you want when buying a heavy duty pick up truck!

not that V8 diesels can't make lots of torque in fact all things the same a v8 and I6 will make the same torque numbers but a V8 will make its torque higher in the RPM band then an inline 6.

this also means that a v8 will rev higher and faster making it actually a better engine option for a fast engine and a fast truck. so if you are looking for a quick truck a V8 option is a great option! Not that the Cummins is slow but again all things the same a V8 will be a fasting reving engine resulting in more speed in theory

the other major reason why a cummins engine is soo good is because of its reliability and the fact that it was over engineered for use in a pick up truck! these engines were originally designed for off-highway commercial use and were going to be used mostly for CASE tractors. in 1989 Cummins struck a deal with Chrysler and the rest is history. but that same commercial engine is used today in RAM 2500 trucks.

how many medium duty truck do you see rolling down the road with a duramax or powerstroke engine? None. that's because they are not meant for heavy duty use. those engine are fine, there's nothing wrong with them and they will serve most people just fine! but the Cummins is simply a stronger engine built to last.

so to conclude the Cummins engines are great and they are the best engine offered in the pick up truck market!
