If you can, choose geothermal. Geothermal saves the most money in the long run, is eco-friendly and absolutely quiet. Air-Source heat pumps are an alternative that is still much more efficient than electric heating at a significantly lower upfront cost than geothermal.

Smart thermostats can easily work on high-voltage using a transformer combined with a relay (Aube Technologies RC840T-240 On/Off Switching Electric Heating Relay with Built-in 24 V Transformer).
