As a child, Gil wished she could help as she watched tornadoes devastate neighborhoods near her home in Alabama. As an adult, she turned that desire into action, volunteering to help people recover after a disaster.

“The biggest thing that I’ve learned is that it takes so many hands, and it takes so long to recover. So anytime that I can be a part of that, that’s really important to me, because I know I will be able to positively impact a few people who are going through one of the worst times in their life.” she says.

Gil volunteered with CORE during our Hurricane Ian response, helping us assess the needs of the community, distribute supplies, and provide immediate home repairs, including roof tarping, to protect from upcoming rains.
