Tetris, well known for its Nintendo Game Boy adaption and other variants, is a tile-matching puzzle game originally created by the Russian software engineer Alexey Pajitnov in 1984. In that time, Pajitnov worked at the Soviet Academy of Sciences as a speech recognition researcher. His ambition was to use computers to make people happy, so he wrote several puzzle games on the institute's computer, the Electronika 60. As he wanted to recreate a favorite puzzle game from his childhood, which featured several different shaped square figures, Tetris was born.

However, Pajitnov wanted an adaption of Tetris on the IBM PC, which had a higher quality display than the Electronika 60. So he asked the 16-year-old student Vadim Gerasimov, who was known for his computer skills. After a few weeks, Gerasimov wrote this Tetris adaption on the PC, which featured colors and a scoreboard.
