BLACK SWAN ♥ FOUR CYGNETS
FOLLOW THEIR JOURNEY!
   • BLACK SWAN ♥ CYGNETS

The BLACK SWAN is a large waterbird, a species of swan, which breeds in the southeast and southwest regions of AUSTRALIA. Within Australia they are nomadic, with erratic migration patterns dependent upon climatic conditions.

BLACK SWANS are ready for breeding at the age of 18 months, and most breed before the end of three years. They are monogamous breeders that share incubation duties and cygnet rearing between the sexes. In the black swan, males spend more time incubating the clutch than females do. Incubation is between 39 - 43 days. (Initially there were 5 eggs on this nest, one was discarded early on (possibly unfertilised)... the remaining 4 eggs hatched over a period of 3 days.

The swans prefer large, permanent swamps and lakes with emergent and submerged aquatic vegetation. The male swan, tagged with an identification band, for monitoring, as part of a long term study to examine the population biology of Black Swans. The information obtained from the study will build upon the scientific body of knowledge that relates to this species.

CYGNETS... downy, light grey. After 3 - 4 weeks cygnets get light brown feathers. process continues up to fledging at 113 -160 days. Eye and bill begin to colour from 60 days onward.¸.•´இڿڰۣ ♥

THE EXPLORER GEORGE BASS, commenting on the notes of the BLACK SWAN, wrote... 'That song, so celebrated by the poets of former times, exactly resembled the creaking of a rusty ale-house sign on a windy day'... yet many find the black swan's trumpeting musical!
