The King has left a pre-recorded message for broadcast at the Maundy Thursday ceremony. As his treatment for cancer continues, the Queen was there to represent him in his absence.

The King's message emphasises kindness and following Christ's example "not to be served but to serve". He goes on to say that "we need and benefit greatly from those who extend the hand of friendship to us especially in a time of need".
