This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2024 BMW i5 M60 high performance electric sedan.
The 2024 BMW i5 M60 has up to 412 km/256 miles of range and a whopping 593 horsepower and up to 605 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD.
In Canada, a less powerful BMW i5 AWD model is coming in the fall with 389 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, it has up to 428 km of range. In the US, there’s the i5 eDrive, a RWD model with 335 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque with up to 295 miles of range.
BMW nailed it when it comes to the handling, it’s sporty, offers incredible power, the steering is precise and it holds its own on twisty roads. We know BMW builds incredibly engaging gas vehicles, but they are also producing dynamic electric vehicles that are really fun daily drivers. The 2024 BMW i5 M60 comes standard with an adaptive suspension, rear-axle air suspension and active 4-wheel steering.
The 2024 BMW i5 M60 has a starting price of $95,000 CAD/$84,100 USD. We have some extra packages and features on our test model including, leather seats, the Bowers and Wilkins sound system, comfort access, a wireless charger, a fixed panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats.
The exterior in Cape York Green Metallic also has the available BMW illuminated kidney grille, the M Sport brakes with blue calipers, shadowline headlights and black exterior accents.
Standard features include a 14.9” touchscreen with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, BMW Operating System 8.5 with Quick Select, a 12.3” digital driver display, leatherette upholstery, power front heated sport seats with driver seat memory, lumbar support, heated steering wheel, a moonroof and a power tailgate. In Canada, the Harman Kardon sound system is standard but in the US the Bowers and Wilkins system is standard.
The 2024 BMW i5 M60 comes with an 11 kW onboard charger. With a DC Fast Charger, it can charge from 10-80% in 30 minutes with speeds up to 205 kW. With a Level 2 charger from 0-100% in under 10 hours.
The 2024 BMW i5 M60 is now longer, wider and offers more height than the previous model. The wheelbase is a little bit longer as well providing some extra comfort in the cabin especially in the rear seat. Looks are subjective and while I like some elements of the exterior design like the rear, the long hood and the sleek roofline, I am not crazy about all the high gloss black trim.
The interior with the upgraded leather tan upholstery and dark grey wood trim looks quite
elegant and the BMW operating system is great, it’s intuitive to use, the graphics are clear and crisp and it’s quick. What I don’t like is in the interior hard plastic, the high gloss black trim at the centre console and the hard plastic light bar. You can dim the lights or shut them off but you are left with a dark black plastic trim piece. I haven’t decided if I prefer that or all the lights.
