Today, McLaren has unveiled the Artura Spider, marking their first venture into the realm of convertibles equipped with a hybrid engine that boasts high performance. This is the second iteration of the Artura model. The introduction of the Spider version brings enhancements in power, performance, and engagement for the driver. These improvements, coupled with the experience of driving with the top down, introduce an exciting new aspect to the Artura lineup.

The 2025 model of the McLaren Artura Spider distinguishes itself from the coupe with several updates. These include a makeover to fit the foldable hardtop roof. Many of these enhancements will also be made available on the coupe version for the 2025 model year, and orders for both models are currently open.

The heart of the Artura Spider is its twin-turbo 3.0-liter M630 V6 hybrid engine, which now delivers a total of 690 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 19 horsepower from its predecessor. The engine's stability is enhanced by new mounts that reduce movement. The eight-speed gearbox has been fine-tuned for 25% quicker shifts, distributing power to the rear wheels via an electronically controlled differential.

Performance-wise, the Spider boasts the ability to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds, reach 124 mph in 8.4 seconds, and achieve a speed of 186 mph in 21.6 seconds, with a top speed capped at 205 mph electronically. It can also complete a quarter-mile run in 10.8 seconds, as stated by McLaren.

A novel feature called “Spinning Wheel Pull-Away” enables the Spider to perform dramatic wheel spins when accelerating from a stop with strong throttle application. Additionally, the vehicle offers a pure-electric mode capable of covering up to 21 miles. The Artura is equipped with a 7.4-kilowatt-hour battery that is usable.

The 2025 Artura introduces McLaren’s latest aerothermal cooling system, which includes new brake cooling ducts and enhanced engine air intake. It features carbon ceramic discs and lightweight aluminum calipers for braking, while improvements in damper valving elevate the ride and handling experience. The response rates of the Proactive Damping Control suspension system have been increased by as much as 90%.

Despite the addition of the convertible roof, the Artura Spider's weight is only 136 pounds more than the coupe, with a total weight of 3,439 pounds. Adjustments were made to the vehicle’s design to integrate the retractable roof, including new buttresses and repositioned cooling vents for the powertrain. To minimize air turbulence with the roof down, modifications were made to the windscreen surround and gurneys were added.

The convertible roof is operated by eight electric motors, allowing it to open or close in 11 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph. This feature enhances the auditory experience of the car’s revised valved exhaust system. An Electrochromatic glass panel option is available for the roof.

McLaren plans to start delivering the Artura Spider in mid-year, with a starting price of $273,800. Buyers can choose from three interior specifications—Performance, TechLux, and Vision—at an additional cost of $9,400 each. Standard for the 2025 model are new 15-spoke silver wheels. The Spider also offers an expanded range of colors, including five standard colors, 20 Elite paints, and 18 MSO finishes. Silver badges are offered at no extra cost, with new black Stealth badges as a standard feature.

The standard audio system includes five speakers, but there is an option for a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system as part of the Technology Pack, which features a rear center speaker between the seats.

Enhancements found on the Artura Spider will be available for the Artura coupe as well, including the power increase. These updates will be released concurrently with the convertible. Owners of the existing coupe will have the opportunity to upgrade their vehicle with the additional 19 horsepower at no extra charge by visiting their McLaren dealer.
