Panelists Doris Wang, MD, PhD, Tamara Stiep MD and Phillip Star, MD, PhD, discuss surgical treatments for movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease and essential tremor. The learning objectives of this UCSF Community Grand Rounds are the following:

1. Understand who is a good candidate for deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease and at what stage it should be done.
2. When should high frequency focused ultrasound (HIFU) lesioning be considered for movement disorders?
3. Learn about a new development in DBS: "adaptive" (self-adjusting) stimulation and its role in treating severe motor fluctuations in Parkinson's disease.
