إذا المرءُ لا يرعاكَ إلا تكلُّفاً
If a person doesn't care about you sincerly

فدَعْهُ و لا تُكثِرْ عليهِ التأسُّفَ
Then leave him, and don’t be too sad about losing him

ففي الناس أبدالٌ وفي التَّركِ راحةٌ
For people can be replaced, and sometimes there is relief in leaving

وفي القلبِ صبرٌ للحبيبِ ولو جَفَا
And there is always patience in the heart towards its loved one despite his coldness

فما كلُّ مَن تَهواهُ يَهوَاكَ قلبُهُ
For not everyone that you love deeply feels the same about you

ولا كلُّ مَن صافيتَهُ لكَ قد صَفا
And not everyone that you were genuine with reciprocated your genuineness

إذا لم يكن صَفْوُ الوِداد طبيعةً
If the love in their heart towards you is insincere

فلا خيرَ في خِلٍ يجيءُ تكلُّفا
Then there is no good in a friend who comes to you full of haughtiness

ولا خيرَ في خِلٍّ يخونُ خليلَهُ
And there is no good in a friend who betrays his friend

ويلقاهُ من بعد الموَدَّة بالجَفا
And meets him indifferently when once the two were close

فما كلُّ مَن تَهواهُ يَهوَاكَ قلبُهُ
For not everyone that you love deeply feels the same about you

ولا كلُّ مَن صافيتَهُ لكَ قد صَفا
And not everyone that you were genuine with reciprocated your genuineness

ويُنكِرُ عَيشاً قد تَقادمَ عَهدُهُ
He denies the existence of your long-standing friendship

ويُظهِرُ سِراً كان بالأمسِ قد خَفَى
And discloses the secrets that you had entrusted to him before

سلامٌ على الدنيا إذا لم يَكنْ بها
Farewell to this world if there isn't in it

صَديقٌ صَدُوقٌ صَادقُ الوَعدِ مُنصِفَا
A faithful, honourable, and just friend

فما كلُّ مَن تَهواهُ يَهوَاكَ قلبُهُ
For not everyone that you love deeply feels the same about you

ولا كلُّ مَن صافيتَهُ لكَ قد صَفا
And not everyone that you were genuine with reciprocated your genuineness
