You won’t believe how cheap it is to run and Tesla Model 3 for the year. It was literally nothing, and that’s including tyre wear and tear. The total cost of my Standard Range Plus Tesla Model 3 was £40,300, and that was including the government grant of £3,000 for an electric vehicle, otherwise it would have been £43,300 with delivery.

For a bonus, I also worked out how much electricity I used and the mileage I covered to give me an average miles per kWh, an average Wh/mile and the MPGe.

Whilst some of the prices and data are guesstimations, I don't think they are too far off.

Obviously how you choose to maintain your vehicle will vary, and driving style will affect wear and tear and overall costs. I'm hoping people can update me on their experiences in the comments to get an average across all the Model 3 owners.

I have a small interest loan over 5 years, rather than PCP or lease, and I can pay it back quickly with no fees. If I pay the interest on the loan, it adds another £1,600.

I have a huge advantage of owning solar panels, so even though I might use a lot more kWh of electricity for every mile I do, so of that is covered off by home charging from the solar panels, which means I'm getting electricity for free.

I've had no minor or major repairs needed and haven't had to rotate the tyres yet, which is recommended every around 10,000 miles. I've haven't looked at battery degradation, but Tesla recently sent an update, which actually increased the range. So as I've done so little mileage, I'm not expected to have any problems with that and its still under warranty.

I didn't factor in depreciation, as depending on whether you lease, hire purchase or even maybe not intend to sell the car, its not really a cost you can account for.

I did include my insurance though, but appreciate that everyones insurance is going to be wild different, but though to put it into my context might be worth it. I have a friend that is 23 that has just managed to get insurance for around £800 on a Long range Tesla Model 3.

I've also not really bought any accessories for the car yet. However I did get Ceramic coating to protect the paint work a little bit, but as this was in 2019, I haven't included it in this years costs.



If you've wondered how much is costs to run a Tesla Model 3 for a year, wonder no more. I add up how much I paid in running costs for things like brake pads, tyres, insurance and obviously electricity.

If you are interested in lease deals or PCP finance, then I haven't gone into the cost of these on purpose as they are a video in themselves, its more about how much the variable costs are.
