Day 31 - Is SIDEBONE due to the WOBBLE EFFECT? 🫨 (a decrease in hoof surface area?)👀

We start this live off by saying how you guys are doing so well on the Phoenix group answering so many questions because you are learning so much - we couldn't change the world without you!

We even say hi 👋 to Garry’s mum!

Then we tell you about our new Scotland workshop which we’ve just added on to this year, 18th-20th October, 2024. If you would like to join us for the best 3 days you will ever spend learning about your horse’s health and hooves then click this link:

(btw the workshop will be very close to Aberdeen airport! 👍)

What other things did we cover:

- should you feed a mash/fibre replacer for horses who are dentally challenged?

- what should you do if you have a horse that has dropped a lot of weight? (talking about legume hay)

- is oat or wheat straw ok? (it’s high in lignin - which is problematic - lignin is a polymer made of phenol molecules. It’s closely associated with dietary fibre and is therefore classified as a dietary fibre)

- we show you The Kelpies from Falkirk, which we visited on our way up to our last Scotland workshop

- what do you do with hoof boots when your equine is growing out that lamellar wedge?

- we talk about bedding - hemp etc.

- natural foraging behaviour of the horse

I then put three x-rays up on the screen (ones you’ve seen before if you’ve watched the lives) and we talk about why a horse developed more sidebone when she was only stood in a stable for a few months.

Is it the ‘wobble effect’ as the hoof begins to lose surface area?

Hmmm interesting!

I hope you like the live!

See you in the next one.
