It looked to be close - very close. Ferrari were quickest in FP3 and Qs one and two. Yet, when it mattered, under pressure, and with the benefit of more top speed than he using in free practice, it was Max Verstappen and the new Red Bull RB20-Honda who took the pole by the healthy margin of 0.3sec. Charles Leclerc duly lines up P2 for Ferrari, ahead of a spectacular George Russell (Mercedes), Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez in the other Ferrari and Red Bull, Fernando Alonso (Aston), the two McLaren-Mercedes of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, a disappointing Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and the impressive Haas-Ferrari of Nico Hulkenberg. In this video Peter Windsor looks back at the day's key results and offers his explanation as to why the grid looks the way it does.
