What a find, Wat Don Keaw, home of the famous Marble Buddha image! I am not a religious person but I sure appreciate artistic and historical links to religious shrines. This Marble Buddha is one of the only three Burmese sculptures made from a whole piece of marble existing worldwide. The first image is situated in India, the second in Pakistan, and the third here at Wat Don Keaw, Mae Ramat, Tak. In April 1922, Khun Ramat Maitree and Mae Ramat people bought the image from the Burmese for 800 rupees. The Buddha image is 50 inches wide and 63 inches tall. It was carried by water via the city of Mawlamyine all the way to Jongto Pier.
