The world knows her as a teacher par excellence and for her breakthroughs in the field of education, but she has redefined every single role she dons. A former principal, a true advocate for women’s rights, an LGBTQ activist, founder of 2 charity organizations, a brilliant artist, wife, a nurturing mother to two and a humanitarian, she is indeed an institution in herself and a force to reckon with, and it is my honour to stand on this stage and bestow my teacher, my life coach and my greatest inspiration with the “Real Woman Of Substance” award. Whether it was hailing from a poor family which lived a hand-to-mouth existence, or almost having to quit her studies for not having enough money, or facing gender discrimination to get her first job, she has defied every obstacle on her way to realising her dream. As her student, the best way to do justice to her legacy is by staying true to the values and life lessons she has passed down. While we commemorate womanhood and the force that it is, the journey and story of this award’s recipient help you climb your mountain with grace and determination. I feel fortunate to be able to personally witness this woman’s courage and principles, when she stood up for me and other meritorious students during our admission into the O.V.S College and demanded that our merit-based admissions were prioritised over non-merit admissions. She is the reason I stand here today. Without further ado and with utmost humility and honour, I would like to invite the real-life hero Mrs Kumkum Srivastava on stage.
