Welcome back to Apple Drains of North Carolina.

Im always getting asked about fabric. Dr Drainz, "What is that drainage fabric you are always talking about?". Well let me give you a real time demonstration of the different kinds of fabric out there to use in your Yard Drains and French Drain projects. Im going to show you 4 different types of fabric and how they work with rain water pouring down on them.

The first 2 we are using are fabric from the Big Box Stores (L & HD). The first Fabric from HD is considered "Landscape Fabric" which isn't even what you are suppose to use in Yard Drainage or French drains. The second is a "Drainage Fabric" from L which you can see the water does drain through albeit slowly, but it is not a durable fabric, very weak and breakable fabric. Not Good!

The other two are 4 and 8 ounce geo-synthetic, needle punched fabric. You can see the 8 oz fabric takes a little longer for the water to go through because of the thickness, but its a strong fabric. We don't need to put that thickness into a yard. We actually prefer to use the 6 oz fabric, in the yards.

Bottom Line: Don't use the "fabrics" from the Big Box boys, they eithe rare really made for yard drainage or they aren't durable enough to last in the ground. Go online (Amazon) and look for the 'Geo-Synthetic, Need Punched' drainage fabric.

We will continue to show you in other videos we are constantly doing about clay holding back the water. Check out one of our experimental videos here:    • What's The Best Way To Install A Fren...
