Channing Tatum's 2012 was the kind of year actors dream about. He had three huge movies, all quite different from each other: The Vow, 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike. It was proof he was a bankable superstar for just about any moviegoer. And the hits kept coming over the next few years.

Things started to slow down after 2015's Magic Mike XXL, though. Since then, Tatum has only headlined one major live-action movie, 2017's Logan Lucky. His other roles have usually been as part of a larger ensemble cast or voice acting in animated films. So what changed? A lot of things: shifting preferences in Hollywood, fatherhood, and Tatum himself becoming more selective of his acting roles while also taking on behind-the-camera jobs. Here's why you haven't seen Channing Tatum onscreen in a while.
