I did this test on my 2020 Ford Explorer ST to find out if we were putting the right fuel in our car. Last time at the dyno, it was brought to my attention that Chevron on average is not always the best fuel. So we tried it, with three different fuels Cano 87, Shell 93 and Chevron 94. We also gave 10% ethanol to the winner. The power numbers were seriously shocking, so I wanted to share them with you.

If this video was helpful to you, let me know in the comments. If you don’t agree, tell me why in the comments. Have a great day everyone and see you next time on another episode of Southdown garage.

If you're looking for an AWD dyno, please check out the fine people at Racing Greed in portcoquitam. Thank you guys for all the bad idea's, I can't wait to implement them.

DISCLAIMER:

THE FORD EXPLORER ST IS TUNED FOR 87 OCTANE, BUT IF YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES RUN A VEHLICE THAT IS DESIGNED FOR 91 OR GREATER ON 87 OCTANE FUEL. DOING SO WILL CAUSE CATISTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE.

Fords manual says it’s tuned for 87 and not to run less than this in any application. However, it very clearly states that if you put in 91 it will do better, which means Ford has set up the vehicle to run on 87 and will advance timing based on whether or not it sees knocks under full load. Constantly running your vehicle on different Octane level and allowing your car to correct through knocks is vary bad for your engine and is not recommended under any circumstances. If you find a fuel you like, stick with it. Be safe, have fun, thank you for watching.
