This video explores the character of Saint Batman aka Jean-Paul Valléy, who first appeared in "Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Batman: Knightfall" issue number one, from December 2019. In an alternate Gotham City, after Bane breaks Bruce Wayne's back, Jean-Paul (initially known as Azrael) takes on the Batman mantle. However, unlike Bruce Wayne, Jean-Paul employs brutal tactics and relies on Venom for superhuman abilities. Ironically, his dependence on the substance, ultimately, weakens him. After Bruce Wayne attempts to reclaim his title and fails, Jean-Paul, now as Saint Batman, reshapes Gotham under his tyrannical rule. Despite maintaining control initially, Saint Batman's reliance on Venom and brutal methods lead to a coup orchestrated by his wife Madeline, Bruce Wayne, and the League of Assassins. In a climactic confrontation in the Batcave, Jean-Paul is defeated and ultimately usurped by a re-empowered Bruce Wayne, who declares himself as Batman once again.
