For this episode I bought a replacement soft top off of Amazon for less than $200. The goal was to replace the tire (and missing at the rear window tan top with a new black top that also came with a glass window. The secondary goal was to see if I could do it without removing the soft top frame from the car.
The entire process took me about 4 hours to complete and for the most part was relatively easy. On the way out the hardest part was probably the clips and one screw that held in the rear most window door seal. but if I had been will ing to just replace with new push clips it would have been as simple as cutting the old clips out. otherwise it took me some time to get a tool that I could use to pop them out without ripping the seal.
Now that absolute worse part was reinstalling the rear rain rails the curved piece that is below the rear window that connects the rear of the soft top to the body. This piece I tried several different ways, starting from the sides and trying to work my way in and than finally bringing up the top (halfway) holding up the rear window (with my head) and working from the center out. As small and confined as the space is within the mIata it would've help to have a second if not a third set of hands for this part.
If there was a part I didn't cover or explain feel free to comment and I will attempt to help you through it. Overall I'm super happy with the top. It fits really, really tight, which I hoping will loosen just a little bit as the sun hits it otherwise I'll have to adjust the hinges or just never put the top down (this is definitely the plan) since it is very hard to hook and close at the moment. We'll also see after some time how the top holds up considering its price.
