The 2024 Honda Ridgeline Is A Mild Refresh, Not A Redesign

If you're waiting for a redesigned Honda Ridgeline, well... keep waiting. Honda just announced the 2024 Ridgeline and Ridgeline Trailsport and it's a fairly modest refresh their pragmatic pickup. The new Trailsport is the biggest news, it gets a revised suspension with spring rates and dampers adjusted for off-road duty, 18-inch wheels and all-terrain tires and extra underbody protection. It of course gets the exclusive Trailsport blue paint job (optional) as well.

Aside from that the 2024 model year is a refinement of frankly the most pragmatic pickup in America, and yes that includes the excellent Maverick. Based on the last generation Pilot, the Ridgeline is powered by one of the few non-turbo V6s in this segment. Colorado, Canyon, Tacoma and Ranger have all gone turbo-four only. On the downside, the controversial ZF 9-speed automatic is still the only transmission offered, many of us had hoped Honda would swap in their new 10-speed from the new Pilot but that may have to wait for a complete redesign.

Honda's engineers were able to make some minor, but appreciated changes to the interior. All models get a new partial LCD instrument cluster, a 9-inch infotainment LCD with a faster processor, and a redesigned center console with more usable storage, bigger cup holders and a better Qi charging pad. On the other hand, this isn't the snazzy new Android based system we see in the new Accord. You guessed it, that'll likely have to wait for the redesign.

Despite the minor tweaks, the Ridgeline is still selling well and that's likely to continue because it's well priced (we don't know 2024 pricing yet mind you), and eminently practical. The in-bed trunk is the only one in the class, the interior is quiet and comfortable, the AWD system is standard and the only system in this segment that offers torque vectoring, the back seat is wide and roomy and there's that V6 under the hood. Really the only complaint I have is that Honda hasn't figured out a way to bump towing capacity to 6,500~7,500 lbs which would make this the mid-size truck to beat in America.
