The tour starts in St. Gallen, a city in the northeastern part of Switzerland and the capital of the canton of St. Gallen. It is one of the highest cities in Switzerland and therefore receives plenty of snow in winter. The city is located between Lake Constance and the mountains of the Appenzell Alps. St. Gallen has about 80,000 inhabitants.

Kreuzlingen is a municipality in the north-eastern part of Switzerland. With a population of around 22’000, it is the second largest town in the canton of Thurgau. The city lies on the border with Germany and, together with the German city of Constance, forms an agglomeration on Lake Constance with almost 120’000 inhabitants.
