At a first glance, and based on the fact BMW X3 is slightly longer, wider, and higher, it looks like Mercedes GLB is trying to compensate for the lack of centimeters with a more boxy shape and a steeper rear end. Some figures confirm this, but the question is how such a design will work with customers who put a lot on aesthetics.

The X3 certainly works more dynamically, while offering a much more powerful engine range. On the other hand, GLB can convince with a lower base model price.
