Panel lining, Pinwashing, and Blacklining are amazing for painting spiffy clean power armor. This is my favorite tip for stormtroopers, space marines, halo spartans, power rangers, mass effect, infinity, dune, doom marines... and a whole bunch of other sci-fi stuff! Either oil or water based paints can work for this, but they look and feel a bit different.
