My wife and I paid off our mortgage last year about a year ago and I wanted to share with you 3 of the best strategies to help you pay off your mortgage faster.

This is going to be short and sweet so if you find value please hit that like button.

1. Invest The Extra Payments
I did not do this method when I paid off my mortgage but I like this idea.
How this would work is you open up a taxable brokerage account and instead of putting the extra money towards the mortgage, you put it in this account. Then, you purchase an index fund like VTI or VOO.
Keep adding to it
If it will take you 5 plus years to pay off this may be a strategy to think about bc the money could grow over time. Historically the stock market averages 8-10% every year. So assume making 8 to 10% on that money until you have the full balance of the mortgage to pay it off in full.
RISK: the market could go down. If you are kind of close to paying off the mortgage then this may not be for you. If it may be a bit, it may be better to invest it. Then when the time comes to pay it off, you may have a little extra or it may even take you less time than you thought bc of the money you earned on the money you invested instead of it sitting in the house.

2. Massive payments every month
This is what we did

3. Make bi weekly payments
Now if you aren’t super intense about paying off your mortgage that fast then this may be the best option for you.

Make bi-weekly payments.

Split your monthly mortgage payment amount in half and send it every two weeks. By the end of the year, you'll have made the equivalent of 13 monthly payments. This strategy can shave four to six years off a typical 30-year loan, depending on your interest rate. On a 15-year mortgage, biweekly payments may cut one to three years from the repayment time, depending on the loan amount and interest rate.
