Rome Total War is one of the Greatest games of all time and my personal favourite. The mixed reception the the Remaster lead me to reassess the game and consider what exactly it was that made this game so spectacular upon its release 17 years ago, and why it retains an impressive player base even today. The Legacy of Rome will be assessed in part 2, where I speak with Prince of Macedon, Volound and MELKOR as well as a university lecturer and researcher.
