CarMax made an offer! And we go through the ownership costs of a 2014 Maserati Ghibli SQ4. If you are considering buying a used Maserati Ghibli, you should probably know how much a typical oil change costs. How about a full set of brake pads and rotors? Tires? Insurance? Well, this is the video for you. I will break down each of these and explain why they cost what they cost.

Many people see the insane depreciation that Maseratis have suffered and stop there. Just because a car that used to cost $80,000 is now only worth $30,000, does not mean the maintenance/ownership cost has also depreciated. The car still has $80,000 car parts. For example, a $35,000 SL65 sounds like a bargain, until you realize that the maintenance on a car that once cost almost $200,000 still has some issues that may cost well over $20,000 to fix.

We start with an oil change, which is done during your annual service, which should be done every 12 months or every 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. A painfully expensive oil change can break the bank if you aren’t prepared for these types of premium maintenance costs. Maserati dealership service is your best route if you want to keep the resale value high. But is it worth the tremendous markup?

How about a full set of new brakes? Expect to pay about 4 times as much as you would on a typical car from 2014, which is the price you pay for driving an Italian performance sedan with Ferrari derived components. If this sounds scary, we haven’t even started talking about repairs yet.

Tires? Although a fairly generic tire, with the Q4 models expect to go through them much faster due to the AWD system (or AWD burnouts if you’re a maniac). To offset all of these costs, I advise that a used Maserati Ghibli should be used as a weekend cruiser rather than a daily driver. Considering just how badly they have depreciated, it will be very unlikely that you will lose much money on this car by driving for a year.

At the end of the video, we visit CarMax to see what they will offer me for my Maserati Ghibli SQ4 with about 37,000 miles on it. Let me tell you, the appraisal offer will shock you, as it shocked me.
