I found a retro clock on the street and upcycled it into a word clock using an individually addressable 5V RGB LED strip (Neopixels), controlled by an Arduino Pro Micro and FastLED. Every individual LED is assigned to a 3D printed letter, displaying the current time in readable sentences.

The LED strip can be either WS2811, WS2812, WS2812B, WS2813, or WS2815, but the important thing is the distance between all the 5050 LEDs. That's why I choose the strip with the most LEDs per meter: 144 LEDs in 1 meter (3.3ft).
