This video is the first part of an epic landscape photography trip backpacking up and along the spectacular Drakensberg Escarpment in South Africa. In this video, and all subsequent parts, I will be showing you what it takes to reach these remarkable places, as well as talking you through my approach to landscape photography.

This was one of the most ambitious, exciting and (ultimately) successful landscape photography trips I have ever been on. I led a group of 6 photography friends who came on a previous trip here with me. We also had my usual team of local guides and porters to help make the trip possible, and far more enjoyable. All in all we were hiking for 7 days with 6 nights camped out. Along the route we were treated to majestic views and varied lighting conditions making this an incredibly productive trip for me.

If you'd like to come on an adventure like this yourself, albeit without the danger, then I run photography workshops in the Drakensberg every year. They last around a week and everything is included once you get to Johannesburg!
