Fan favorite Ncuti Gatwa finally made an appearance on Masters of the Air after several episodes, and even though his part may not be exactly what viewers expected, the program has always featured an interesting ensemble cast that includes important performers like Austin Butler and Callum Turner. In Masters of the Air, Ncuti Gatwa portrays Second Lieutenant Robert Daniels. Daniels was an actual fighter pilot who flew with the illustrious Tuskegee Airmen, an all-Black group. Daniels was shot down in France, and he was taken prisoner along with Richard Macon and Alexander Jefferson.

It was great to have Ncuti Gatwa in Masters of the Air because of his exciting acting credits and vivacious and entertaining demeanor. After becoming well-known from Sex Education, Gatwa went on to play Barbie alongside Greta Gerwig and is now the newest Doctor on Doctor Who. Thus, Gatwa's performance in Masters of the Air appeared to be both a significant addition to his résumé and an opportunity to witness him in a position that he hasn't actually portrayed before. But Ncuti Gatwa's job as a Masters of the Air is not what one may anticipate.

The largest distinction between Ncuti Gatwa's role and what viewers were expecting is just how large it is. It appeared likely that Gatwa would have a major role in Masters of the Air because he is taking on more prominent duties, but based on his introduction in episode eight, that does not appear to be the case. Daniels from Gatwa is one of the three Tuskegee Airmen that end up at Stalag Luft III, but he does not appear nearly as frequently as his colleagues. Daniels is sporadic, but Macon, Jefferson, and the 100th build bonds and coexist together.
