Hyundai's mission is to have a slew of new EV, HEV and PHEV vehicles over the next few years to improve their standing when it comes to fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness. The first big push from the company is the Ioniq which is a three-pronged attack with a dedicated electric version, a standard hybrid and the all-new plug-in hybrid we drove for a week. The PHEV trades a little bit of efficiency for a 29 mile electric only range. Like the Toyota Prius Prime, the Ioniq Plug In was not intended to be an "EV with a backup plan" but instead to help you shift some of your fuel consumption from gasoline to electricity while maintaining a laser-sharp focus on overall efficiency. The result is a vehicle that has a few trade-offs but is unquestionably efficient.
