I don't recommend using weld-on for this particular application as it did not work well for me. However, it is a fantastic product for chemically fusing acrylic that may be of interest to you.

You do not have to use adhesive backed sandpaper. You can substitute with regular sandpaper and double sided tape. Again, links are provided for your convenience, in case you're interested in them.
