This was a one off half track creation by Austrian Kurt Kretzner. The many wheels were to minimize the ground pressure the vehicle put on terrain such as mud, snow, sand, etc (similar to a German Panzer V Panther medium or Panzer 6 Tiger heavy tank with its multiple interleaved road wheels). This T1 uses its standard 1.2L 33hp Flat 4 engine which only gives it a speed of 21 mph (35 kmh as stated on the back of the vehicle). There were two made but it seems only this one survives today. The Oldtimer vw group just completed restoration of the vehicle last year and showed/unveiled it at a club show that year as well (because of the hard work of finding/sourcing and parts over Germany). I believe the 2023 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is it's first major International show its been to since restoration was completed. Interesting vehicle.
