Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) are a superfood for chickens, providing them with protein, fat, essential amino acids, calcium, and other nutrients. BSFL can help chickens lay more eggs with thicker shells, improve yolk color, and reduce egg eating. BSFL is also a great supplement for molting chickens and for supporting general health. However, BSFL is potent and should be given to chickens as a supplement, not as a feed. Give your chickens 8-12 BSFL larvae per day. BSFL can be purchased or farmed at home. If you have a dominant chicken, you may need to manage the dosage of BSFL to ensure that she doesn't eat too much and the other chickens get enough.
