Hello everyone! This week I covered Jolene by Dolly Parton (with a bit of a twist).

This is a lyric rewrite about the nuances of thinking you're attracted to a man but turns out you only "liked" him because he was the object of affection of the woman you actually liked but being with him was the closest thing you could get to being with her.

In this version, Jolene and the narrator have a long history of being at odds with one another. They lived in the same town and grew up together. Jolene had an on-and-off fling with the narrator's husband (before they got married) but it ended when she moved away. From there, the Narrator and husband got married and things were fine until Jolene returned. The Narrator realizes she has very intense feelings for Jolene and always has. This is a song about her sorting through them and trying to convince herself that pushing them away is the only answer.
