“May our family members who have passed, help guide our quarry to us, and rejoice in our fellowship! Be with us in spirit and fulfillment and preservation of our Swartz family legacy on Swartz land. This, I pray, is to be our first commemorative hunt of many more to come, honoring our loved ones in tradition of enjoying the outdoors as a family, and remembering those who aren’t visible to our eyes, but are always present in our hearts. Watch over us on our long journey to and from our homes, states apart, and deliver us safely to our loved ones. In Jesus name, Amen” 🙏🏽

This was the prayer I prayed on the drive down to Indiana from Minnesota, a day before the Indiana firearms opener for deer. My cousins Mike and Joe Swartz had been preparing us for this family hunting trip for some time, and we are so thankful for all they had done to aid us in our hunt. From mowing and cutting shooting lanes, and erecting hunting blinds and stands to monitoring trail cameras to see what deer were frequenting the area and at what times, those boys, prepare all year long! We enjoyed our time with family while home for such a short visit, and shared stories of past hunts and experiences, and new ones like this footage we were able to capture of Peyton’s first deer, successfully harvested, and my largest buck to date.
This video shows the events leading up to Peyton and I harvesting our first Indiana whitetail bucks. We watched bucks fight on a hill behind us across the road and two on the road fighting as well, we used buck grunts and doe bleats to entice them to come to us. Once in our sights, our Dreamy Doe decoy held their attention long enough for us to tag out, opening day before 7:30am! Thank you again Swartz family for hosting the Northern Hoosier family hunting trip! We love y’all!

Stay tuned for Part 2, retrieving my buck!

VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED, this is an outdoor channel, we hunt and fish, we participate in legal harvesting of wild game for food and recreation. Death is a part of life, conservation allows us to ensure populations are kept in check, to regulate good breeding genetics and overall health of animal populations. Without harvesting during the fall, many animals would starve through the winter months from overconsumption by their counterparts. We remove older animals to make way for their offspring in the springtime. If you don’t like or understand this, but are willing to learn, you may stay, if you have negative outlooks on this, you are on the wrong channel., kindly remove yourself if you have nothing positive or constructive to bring to the table. Thank you 🙏🏽
